About Get Bent Sportfishing

Here in the Florida Keys there is more water than most people could fish and explore in a lifetime. From Key Largo to Key West, there is an abundance of marine life on both the Florida Bay and Atlantic side of the island chain. The Florida Keys are very unique in many ways and certainly hold paradise status within. The Caribbean island culture has influenced much of the Keys and those who live and vacation here. The sportfishing industry started in the 1940's, although fishing has been a huge part of the Keys lifestyle from many years before. Generations after the pioneers began sharing the excitement of this sport, it continues to thrive and advance to new levels of the imagination. For those looking for a fun relaxing and safe fishing destination, they definitely deserve a visit to the Florida Keys. Let Get Bent Charters with myself, Captain Chris Walter, share a very memorable sportfishing experience with your family and friends. A little about me! I am a 30-year-old fishing fanatic. I started fishing on weekends with my grandfather at age 3 and was “hooked on” fishing for life. If it were freshwater or saltwater, it did not matter. As long as there were fish, we were there. At age 16, I moved to Ocean City, Maryland from the mountains of Western Maryland and landed a summer fishing job. Two summers of tying knots and untangling lines on head-boats in the Delaware Bay lead me to the “Sportfishing Capital of the World”, Islamorada, in the Florida Keys. I came down here for a week ten years ago and completely fell in love with the beauty of the Keys and surrounding waters. I have been very lucky to have been able to work and fish with some of the best captains and mates in the Middle and Upper Keys. After five years of “paying my dues” as a boat washer, 2nd mate, and then 1st mate, I studied hard to earn a Coastguard Captain’s license. With that license I was able to expand both my passion and career on the waters of the Florida Keys. Driving charter fishing boats from 16 to 55 ft in length for the first two years of being a captain gave me the experience and ideas to form a safe and super fun charter fishing operation in the Keys…Get Bent Charters. A little about her! The “Get Bent” is a 29’ Regulator center console. It is powered by 2 Yamaha 300s.  It is also equipped with a new t-top for shade away from the mid-day sun, as well as comfortable seating beneath it for pure relaxation. It provides a safe and comfortable ride for a fun day on the water. The “Get Bent” is professionally rigged with pride for any type of fun Florida Keys fishing trip. We are also tuned and ready by request for many of the Florida Keys Fishing Tournaments. “Get Bent” Charters supplies only the finest tackle and equipment including new Penn reels and Offshore Angler rods. We have all of the fancy gear, but you are more than welcome to bring your favorite tackle as well. What to Bring and What We Supply: There are a few items to remember when fishing on the “Get Bent”. We recommend a hat, polarized sunglasses, sunscreen, deck shoes, non-marking-soled shoes, or bare feet are also acceptable. We supply bottled water on the boat, but if you like, you may bring along your favorite beverages as well as beer and wine. Snacks and lunch are also recommended, as good nutrition will keep you energized for a day of catching big fish. We have plenty of ice and space to store beverages and food, as well as your catch! Do not forget your camera and a positive attitude because most days aboard the “Get Bent” are experiences to cherish and remember for the rest of your life.
