Capt. Jim Dalrymple specializes in evening and night fishing for Tarpon with live bait, while he's great at daytime fly fishing for all species. When he's not out drifting a bridge under the stars in search of the silver king, you'll find him cruising the flats, offshore and backcountry fishing for everything from bonefish to sailfish with spinning tackle. For the avid light-tackle fisherman who is ready for a greater challenge, fly fishing or fly casting instruction maybe the next step. Jim has been guiding anglers around the shallow waters of the Florida Keys since 1990. He has also fished professionally on the BASS and FLW tournament trails, and professionally fished the Redfish tournament trail from Florida to Texas finding it to be both fun and rewarding but being a saltwater fishing Guide is his favorite. Here in Islamorada, he found a fly-fishing oasis. Jim was a student of the great Lefty Kreh and learned to fly fish at the age of seven. Now, fifty years later, he finds much pleasure in passing on the skills of his former mentor. A native of Gaithersburg, Maryland, Jim began his outdoor career managing a hunting and tackle shop. Prior to moving to the Keys he spent his days guiding fishermen to bass on the Potomac River, as well as trout on the famous limestone streams of Southern Pennsylvania. Then, after moving south he was recruited by Ranger Boats to be a member of their newly formed Inshore Saltwater Fishing Team. Now located in Florida Jim began fishing with his childhood hero, Roland Martin. Jim also became a member-guide of the Yamaha Saltwater Fishing Team. To date, Jim has been the featured guide in Ten episodes of Fishing with Roland Martin, as well as two episodes with Ron Shearer on the Great American Outdoors. Further, Jim made two other television appearances with Charlie Ingram's Fishing University and Ray Vanhorn’s Gypsy Angler not to mention numerous appearances on ESPN outdoors. Every year Jim at some point fishes with his longtime friend and customer Major-league baseball Hall of Famer Wade Boggs and has Multiple tournament titles to show for it. In November, Jim departs from the warm waters of these tropical Isles and returns to Maryland. There, he can be found sitting quietly in his tree stand awaiting the arrival of a whitetail deer. Be it light tackle or fly fishing, offshore or flats Jim Dalrymple is just a phone call away....and Jim added "It's a dirty job but somebody's gotta do it)!
